A source from Al Ahly Club revealed the development of negotiations with its Spanish counterpart Barcelona for the Joan Gamper Cup title, in preparation for the new 2026/2027 season.
The Joan Gamper Cup is held at the beginning of every season, as Barcelona invites one of the world's clubs to play the match in front of its fans before the start of official competitions.
Development of Barcelona's negotiations with Al Ahly
A source from Al Ahly Club clarified in statements via Yalla Koura that the contracts for Barcelona's match against Al Ahly have not yet been signed, but matters are very close to being settled.
The official spokesperson for Barcelona Club had previously stated in his remarks to Yalla Koura last Saturday: "At this stage, what I can say is that Al Ahly is the closest team to playing the Joan Gamper Cup match on August 19."
The spokesperson added: "Barcelona has entered into negotiations with Al Ahly, and an agreement has already been reached on most of the terms."
He continued: "Despite that, we cannot yet confirm with 100% certainty that all details have been finalized, and once everything is completed, the club will announce the matter through its official platforms."
Al Ahly Club is expected to face numerous challenges, both in the league and Egypt Cup, in addition to the African Confederation Cup competitions at the continental level.
Barcelona Club had signed the promising striker Hamza Abdel Karim, the Egyptian national team player, on loan from Al Ahly last February.
At the end of the 2025/2026 season, the Catalan club decided to activate the purchase option clause at the end of June, marking the beginning of relations between the administrations of the two clubs in the recent period.
