Egypt hosts South Africa in a friendly match

Via Yallakora

The Egyptian national team hosts its South African counterpart this Sunday evening, marking the end of the Pharaohs' campaign during the current international break with a friendly match as part of both teams' preparations for upcoming international competitions.

Cairo International Stadium will host the friendly match between Egypt and South Africa at 9:00 PM Cairo time.

Egypt is seeking to achieve a positive result and put on a good performance to calm the atmosphere surrounding the Pharaohs' camp in recent times.

Crises have surrounded Egypt's current training camp, even before the first match against Angola, following head coach Hossam Hassan's comments about excluding goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy, in addition to the desire of duo Mohamed Abdelmonem and Mohamed Salah not to play the South Sudan match due to it being held on an artificial turf "Tartan" pitch.

On the other hand, South Africa is armed with the experience of its new coach Pitso Mosimane, who knows Egyptian football well after previously coaching Al Ahly club.

Egypt began its journey in the international break period with a match against Angola, which ended in a goalless draw in the first round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Pharaohs regained their balance by securing their first victory in the AFCON qualifiers through a win against South Sudan in the second round, with a clean sheet of five goals.

The national team's five goals against South Sudan were scored by Mostafa Ziko, Omar Marmoush (two goals), Ibrahim Adel, and Hamza Abdel Karim.

Egypt will miss the services of Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Abdelmonem in today's match after they left the camp, in addition to resting Haitham Hassan due to injury. Conversely, Ahmed Fathy has recovered from the thigh bruise he sustained in the previous match.
