Spanish newspaper AS revealed that Portuguese José Mourinho will officially begin his work with Real Madrid next Monday, in preparation for the new season.
The newspaper stated that Mourinho will lead Real Madrid's first training session next Monday, marking the start of the preparation period for the new season.
The newspaper added that the Portuguese coach will begin the preparation period amid the absence of several players participating in the 2026 World Cup, but he will benefit from the early return of some elements after their national teams' exit from the tournament.
It pointed out that Federico Valverde and Arda Güler will join the training sessions during the first days of preparation, while defender Antonio Rüdiger is expected to arrive during the second week, alongside new signing Denzel Dumfries.
It confirmed that Mourinho will give opportunities to several Castilla team players during the preparation period, and he also wants to closely evaluate the duo Eduardo Camavinga and striker Gonzalo before deciding on their positions.
It clarified that the Portuguese coach is still demanding the signing of a midfielder who can play both defensive and offensive roles, in addition to needing a pure striker, while Gonzalo will remain with the team until a final decision is made regarding his future.
The newspaper concluded that the Spanish League Association is inclined to postpone Real Madrid's opening match in the new season to give players participating in the World Cup the necessary rest and preparation period, with the team set to begin its La Liga campaign on August 23, should the date be officially approved.
