Alexis Mac Allister, the Argentine national team midfielder, directed a message after losing the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to Spain on Sunday evening.
Argentina lost 0-1 to Spain in the World Cup final last Sunday, after Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the match.
The Argentine national team players returned to their country in the early hours of Tuesday morning, amid great celebration from the fans despite losing the tournament.
Mac Allister wrote on his personal Instagram account: "We were so close to the title and that's why what happened hurts us so much, but no one can erase everything we lived through during that edition of the World Cup, what we felt was exceptional, we suffered and faced difficulties but we overcame them together, let's never forget that, we are stronger than anyone when we are together".
He added: "There are moments that will remain in our memory and hearts forever, just as I will never forget that day when we received the 2022 World Cup medals and cried and celebrated with our fans in the streets of Buenos Aires, that tournament left us with two unforgettable images that reflect the people's connection to that team".

He continued: "The first image is when we received the second-place medals, where the audience present in the stadium began singing with great enthusiasm, the family, friends and the public made any other celebration fade away, and the second was during the special reception we received in Buenos Aires, rainy and cold weather, but our love for our country and our team cannot be extinguished".
He stressed: "Excuse me for this frankness but you are all crazy, that's what we like about you, let's cry, we are Argentines and we always strive to win, but after crying we must rise up, unite and continue moving forward because the battle is not over yet".
He went on: "I extend my thanks to our families and friends and to everyone who gives their all for this team, and to everyone who supports us throughout the year, in good times and bad, you are an integral part of our identity, thank you to all the people for every message of love and support, you have no idea how important you are in this journey".
He concluded: "And also thanks to those who send us messages from other countries, mocking us or rejoicing in our sadness, that unintentionally helps us feel even more proud to be Argentines every day".
