Coventry City are close to finalizing a deal to sign Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock after reaching an agreement worth £6 million, bolstering the squad of the newly promoted side.
According to The Athletic, Coventry have agreed on a deal with Brentford for a base fee of £5 million plus £1 million in add-ons. The Jamaican defender is set to sign a three-year contract with an option for an additional year.
Pinnock, aged 33, has been granted permission to travel to undergo medical examinations ahead of officially completing his move to Coventry.
Pinnock had entered the final phase of his contract with Brentford and did not feature in the team's opening match of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Jamaican defender is expected to become Coventry's ninth signing of the summer transfer window and their second center-back, following the acquisition of Aurèle Amenda from Eintracht Frankfurt last July.
Pinnock joined Brentford in 2019 from Barnsley, making 216 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals and providing 7 assists. He was a key figure in the team's journey to promotion to the Premier League in the 2020-2021 season.
Pinnock's role diminished in recent seasons; he featured in only eight matches last campaign, four of which were in the Premier League, after losing his regular spot in Brentford's lineup.
Internationally, Pinnock has earned 28 caps for the Jamaica national team. He played every minute of his country's matches during the World Cup qualifying playoffs before Jamaica's campaign ended in extra-time defeat to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
