The Somali team took an early lead in the 17th minute through Elias, who fired a low shot past the goalkeeper to the left.
Jimmy Kalima equalized in the 34th minute after breaking through; his initial shot was saved by the goalkeeper, but he followed up with another strike that found the net.
Just one minute later, Kalima scored his second goal and Kitala's second with a header to the goalkeeper's left, capitalizing on a lack of marking.
The return leg will be played next Saturday, September 12, to determine Al-Ahly's opponent in the second preliminary round.
Kitala qualified for the Confederation Cup as Uganda Cup champions, while Mogadishu City entered as winners of the 2026 Somalia Cup.
