Italian club Como announced the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez to strengthen their squad during the ongoing summer transfer window.
In an official statement, Como said: "The club is pleased to announce the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sánchez on loan from Chelsea until the end of the 2026/27 season."
Ahmed Shobir, father of Al Ahly goalkeeper Mostafa Shobir, had confirmed the arrival of an offer from Como to sign his son during the current summer, but the Reds refused to complete the deal.
In the past few hours, Mostafa Shobir renewed his contract with Al Ahly until 2029, adding two seasons to his current contract, in addition to the remaining season.
Robert Sánchez was born in 1997 and began his career at Levante's youth academy before joining English club Brighton & Hove Albion at the age of 15.
After loan spells with Forest Green Rovers and Rochdale, he returned to Brighton and made his Premier League debut in November 2020, becoming the team's first-choice goalkeeper.
Sánchez joined Chelsea in August 2023. He made six appearances for the team, which won the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and received the Golden Glove award as the tournament's best goalkeeper. He also featured for Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League.
Sánchez has over 170 Premier League appearances to his name. He has also represented Spain internationally and was part of the national team's squad for UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Cesc Fàbregas, Como's manager, said about the deal: "Robert brings extensive experience at the highest level and has skills that suit our playing style."
The Spanish coach added: "He is a strong goalkeeper with a distinct presence. He is also skilled with the ball and can help us build attacks from the back. We are very happy to have him join Como."
For his part, Robert Sánchez said: "I am overjoyed. It has been a wonderful reception. I am very happy to be here and will do my best to improve this team's performance. I look forward to starting work."
