Demands are growing within the Premier League for a sanction to be imposed on Manchester City and for the case to be resolved before the end of the current season, amid concerns that the uncertainty surrounding the issue will persist for longer.
Prominent figures in football revealed to the BBC that the penalty imposed on Manchester City over alleged financial breaches should be issued before the conclusion of the season. One club official, who requested anonymity, stated that "it is in everyone's interest to resolve this matter as quickly as possible," emphasizing the need for the procedures to be carried out correctly.
The Premier League had previously announced Manchester City's guilt on all charges related to breaching financial regulations between the 2009-2010 and 2017-2018 seasons, including inflating revenues by more than £900 million through sponsorship deals deemed "sham" by the league.
Manchester City denies any wrongdoing and intends to appeal, while fears grow that the case, which began approximately three years ago, will drag on for an extended period.
Another source indicated that the file should be settled before the end of the season, expressing hope for expedited appeal proceedings.
The authority to issue the final decision rests with the independent commission, while the Premier League and Manchester City have the right to submit proposals regarding the sanction.
Regulations stipulate that appeals must be decided within up to 12 weeks of submission, with the decision to be issued within 30 days of the conclusion of proceedings, allowing for the process to be accelerated if necessary.
Clubs and officials in the competition fear that delays in imposing the sanction could lead to further controversy, particularly if Manchester City finishes the season as league champions before the case is resolved.
