A Moroccan report confirmed that the Competitions Committee of the African Football Confederation "CAF" recommended rejecting the proposal to increase the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup, starting from the 2026-2027 season.
Hani Abu Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, had confirmed days ago the submission of an official request to "CAF" to increase the number of clubs participating in the two African club championships, by granting each country an additional seat in each championship, to be distributed according to classification criteria.
However, according to what was mentioned by the Moroccan website "Al-Botola", the management of the Competitions Committee issued a recommendation to reject the proposal, with an explanation of the reasons for rejection in an official memorandum directed to the Nigerian Samson Adamu, Secretary General of the African Football Confederation.
The report indicated that Adamu, in turn, contacted the South African Patrice Motsepe, President of "CAF", to discuss the situation before directing the official response to the Egyptian Football Association.
According to what the report clarified, one member of the CAF Executive Committee refused to comment on the proposal, justifying that by saying it "has not yet been presented to the members of the Executive Committee", and that the members have not been notified of a meeting date in the coming period.
