The Referees Committee of the Egyptian Football Association has revealed an analysis of the controversial refereeing incidents in Al Ahly's match against ZED in the Egyptian Premier League.
Al Ahly secured a 2-0 victory over ZED in the match that brought both teams together as part of the second round fixtures of the Egyptian Premier League tournament.
The match between Al Ahly and ZED witnessed several controversial refereeing decisions that sparked debate on social media platforms, most notably Al Ahly's second goal scored by Taher Mohamed Taher, and a penalty kick not awarded following a handball by Ashraf Bencharqi inside Al Ahly's penalty area.

The official page of the Egyptian Football Association published on Facebook an analysis of the refereeing incidents in the Al Ahly versus ZED match. Mahmoud Ashour, a member of the Referees Committee, stated: "A missed yellow card incident for player number 21 (Ali Mahmoud) of Al Ahly following a reckless challenge on a ZED player, which should have resulted in a second yellow card and consequently a red card."
He added: "The Referees Committee's decision is to issue a yellow card followed by a red card; there is no intervention by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology specifically in this case concerning Al Ahly's player number 21."
He continued: "Regarding ZED's demand for a penalty kick against player number 17 (Ashraf Bencharqi), the ball struck the hand while it was in a natural position, therefore no penalty kick should be awarded. The Referees Committee's decision confirms that there is no penalty kick in this situation."
