Slaven Bilić, head coach of the Croatia national team, announced that Luka Modrić will continue playing internationally for his country.

Some had hinted that Modrić's international career might end following Croatia's elimination by Portugal in the 2026 World Cup.
Bilić stated in remarks published on the Croatian Football Federation website: "Of course, Luka's decision delights me greatly; we all recognize what he contributes to Croatia, both on and off the pitch."
He added, "I look forward to working with him again after 14 years, as we share a strong ambition to maintain Croatia's status as a successful and distinguished team competing among the world's best national sides."
The Croatia national team is preparing to play four UEFA Nations League matches against Czechia, England, and Spain in home-and-away fixtures during September and October.
Croatia enters a new era following the departure of head coach Zlatko Dalić, who led the team to silver at the 2018 World Cup and bronze in 2022.
Modrić holds the record for most appearances for his national team, with 202 caps, during which he scored 29 goals.
The 40-year-old Modrić recently renewed his contract with Milan for an additional season, ensuring the continuation of his club and international career.
