The chances for the Egyptian men's and women's beach volleyball national teams to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic finals have ended.
Both teams failed to reach the final of the African Men's and Women's Championship, held in Alexandria from August 18 to 22 of this month.
The Egyptian men's team lost to Angola in the quarter-finals with a score of 2-1.
Meanwhile, the women's team's journey ended in the semi-finals at the hands of Morocco with the same score.
The importance of this edition of the African Championship lies in the fact that the champion qualifies directly for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
A total of 24 teams are participating in the men's competition and 22 teams in the women's competition.
The list of participating countries includes: Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Mozambique, Togo, Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Burundi, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Niger, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Kenya, Angola, Botswana, Mauritius, Comoros, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Lesotho, Gambia, South Africa, and Seychelles.
The Egyptian men's team has never previously participated in the beach volleyball competition at the Olympics.
The women's team, on the other hand, participated in the Rio 2016 and Paris 2024 editions, finishing in 19th place in both.
