Barcelona secured victory in their previous match against Athletic Bilbao with a 2-0 scoreline, and also defeated Elche in the first round with a 5-0 win.
Egyptian professional Hamza Abdel Karim did not feature in either of these two matches, having been named on the substitutes' bench twice consecutively.
During the pre-match press conference, Coach Flick spoke about Hamza Abdel Karim, affirming that he deserves an opportunity and clarifying that his time to play will come, though competition in the attacking line remains fierce.
