Barcelona returns to its old target after failing to sign Álvarez

Via Btolat

FC Barcelona is keen on signing a pure striker during the current summer transfer window, amid difficulties in securing Julián Álvarez, the star of Atlético Madrid, as Los Rojiblancos are determined to keep him.

Barcelona has attempted to sign Álvarez throughout this summer transfer window, but Atlético Madrid's management has shown clear stubbornness in selling the player to Blaugrana, insisting on receiving his release clause set at €500 million in the Argentine international's contract.

In this context, the newspaper "Mundo Deportivo," citing "Sport Bild," reported that Barcelona is seriously considering signing Serhou Guirassy, the star of Borussia Dortmund, and the Blaugrana have inquired about the possibility of acquiring the Guinean international this summer.

It added that there is an obstacle that could prevent Barcelona from signing Guirassy this summer, namely the player's high salary, as the striker earns €10 million annually with Dortmund, which does not fit within the Spanish club's wage cap.

It clarified that Guirassy has a release clause in his contract with Dortmund worth €50 million, and only seven clubs can afford to pay it, including Barcelona.

Guirassy was previously linked with a move to Barcelona during last summer, before the player decided to stay with Dortmund.

Guirassy signed with Dortmund in 2024 coming from VfB Stuttgart, managing to score 22 goals for the German club across 46 appearances in all competitions last season, in addition to providing six assists.

The newspaper concluded by saying that Dortmund's interest in signing Barcelona player Héctor Fort could have reduced the deal's value, but Guirassy's high salary ended any possibility of his transfer to Camp Nou this summer.
