Barcelona's Spanish club announced it will play an upcoming match against its Egyptian counterpart Al-Ahly for the title of the friendly Joan Gamper Cup, in preparation for the new 2026/2027 season.

Barcelona Club clarified, via its official website, that the match against Al-Ahly will be held on Wednesday, August 19, at 8:00 p.m. Central European Summer Time (7:00 p.m. Cairo time).
The Catalan club's statement noted that the match against Al-Ahly will be the first in the Joan Gamper Cup tournament held at "Spotify Camp Nou" stadium since its reopening.
The statement added: "Al-Ahly will face Barcelona in the 61st edition of the Estrella Damm Gamper Festival, which is the first match for Barça at its stadium in the 2026/2027 season, and it will coincide with the team's official presentation to the fans."
The statement continued: "The Joan Gamper Cup will return to Camp Nou stadium after its reopening; last year's edition was held at Johan Cruyff Stadium against Como 1907, while the previous two editions were held at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys against Monaco and Tottenham Hotspur respectively."
It added: "Al-Ahly will become the first Egyptian and African club to participate in the Joan Gamper Cup tournament; the Red Devils, founded in 1907 and based in Cairo, are the most successful club in Africa and one of the most decorated clubs in the world in terms of titles and international achievements."
The third meeting between Barcelona and Al-Ahly
This edition of the Joan Gamper Cup is expected to renew the historical relationship between two of the world's most prestigious football clubs; Al-Ahly and Barcelona have previously met on several occasions, including Al-Ahly's celebrations of its first centenary in 2007.
The two teams met in a friendly in Spain for the first time in 1961, and after nearly two decades, the two football giants will meet again at Camp Nou stadium, in a historic occasion that brings together the African Club of the Century and Barcelona.
Barcelona's statement confirmed that Al-Ahly's participation in the Joan Gamper Cup will enhance its international standing, making it the first representative of African football to participate in this prestigious tournament.

Barcelona confirmed in its official statement that the presentation ceremony of the Joan Gamper Cup match and the festival preceding the match will be broadcast live on the "Barça Play" platform, the club's video platform.
The anticipated match will also be broadcast on the "FC Barcelona Premium" channel on the YouTube platform, allowing Barcelona fans around the world to follow the event that officially marks the start of the 2026/2027 season.
