The death of Jorge Messi, Lionel Messi's father, was announced at the age of 68 after a long battle with illness, as he passed away in one of the hospitals.
Lionel Messi headed with his family to Argentina on Sunday to bid farewell to his late father at the private El Prado cemetery, on the outskirts of the city of Rosario, in a private ceremony attended by the guards of hope.

Lionel Messi, his wife, and their children boarded a private plane from the United States of America to bid farewell to his father, support his mother and siblings, before attending the funeral, where the cemetery was closed to visitors starting from noon to grant privacy to the star's family.

According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", some fans headed to Rosario Airport and the cemetery to leave banners in support of Lionel Messi, which read: "Stay strong, Leo, we love you."
Meanwhile, the mayor of the same city, Pablo Javkin, made sure to offer his deepest condolences to Lionel Messi's family, and confirmed that the local government is fully prepared to provide security for his father's funeral.
