The Uruguayan Ronald Araujo is determined to stay with Barcelona, despite not being guaranteed a starting spot in German coach Hans Flick's lineup, according to media reports.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Araujo's priority is to fight for a place in the starting lineup, after facing difficulty regaining his starting position last season, while Flick used him at right-back on several occasions alongside his appearances as a center-back.
The Uruguayan defender is under contract with Barcelona until June 30, 2031, after the club renewed his deal in January 2025, though several reports previously stated that the Catalan club is open to selling him given his distance from the first-team squad under Flick.
Araujo's situation appears complicated amid strong competition for center-back spots, with Pau Cubarsí, Eric García, Andreas Christensen and Gerard Martín all present, plus the possibility of a new defender arriving given Barça's interest in signing Aymeric Laporte.
It is worth noting that Araujo (27) featured in 38 matches for Barcelona across all competitions last season, scoring 4 goals.
