The transfer deal of the Ivorian Yan Diomande to Real Madrid was not just a record-breaking deal that shattered the previous record in the history of RB Leipzig club, after its value reached 125 million euros, but it also carried in its details a special clause that could grant the German club additional gains in the coming period.
Diomande, who is 19 years old, moved to Real Madrid in a deal that became the most expensive in RB Leipzig's history, but the German club succeeded in securing an additional privilege within the agreement, represented by a testimonial match between the two teams in Leipzig.
According to information from the German newspaper "Bild", Diomande's transfer deal to Real Madrid included an agreement to hold a testimonial match between the two clubs in Leipzig, a clause that the German club is accustomed to including in a number of its major deals.
This was not the first time RB Leipzig obtained such a privilege, as the transfers of prominent players previously included contractually agreed friendly matches against major European clubs.
These agreements included a match against Manchester City following Josko Gvardiol's transfer in 2023, another against Barcelona after Dani Olmo's departure in 2024, in addition to a match against Manchester United following Benjamin Sesko's transfer in 2025. The date remains unknown
Real Madrid is expected to play the testimonial match against RB Leipzig, but its date has not been determined yet.
In return, the German club will face the record holder for the number of UEFA Champions League titles this summer, as part of its preparations for the new season, as it will play a match against Real Madrid as a final test before the start of the season.
On the fifteenth of August, another match will be held against one of the major clubs in the city of Munich, while the date of the match against Real Madrid remains unknown.
The agreement carries another piece of good news for RB Leipzig, as the German club is guaranteed compensation estimated at around 1.3 million euros if a suitable date cannot be reached for the testimonial match.
This amount is approximately equivalent to the revenues that RB Leipzig could have achieved from the match, whether through ticket sales or hospitality revenues.
Thus, RB Leipzig has secured an additional financial gain in the event the match is not held, without losing the economic value that the match on the pitch was expected to achieve.
The condition is not added to the transfer value
The compensation amount of around 1.3 million euros is not considered additional fees on Diomande's transfer deal, but rather falls within the bonuses and incentives associated with the deal.
It is possible that the total value of the transfer could rise to 140 million euros if the conditions related to the player's performance and success with Real Madrid are met.
In return, Diomande's transfer contract does not include any clause granting RB Leipzig a percentage of the player's future resale value.
Thus, the German club was content with receiving a massive transfer fee, along with incentives linked to the player's career, as well as the special clause for the testimonial match.
Diomande becomes a Red Bull ambassador
Diomande's relationship with the Red Bull system did not end with his transfer from RB Leipzig to Real Madrid, as the Ivorian player was within the energy drink company's circle of interest even before the testimonial match was completed.
Concurrently with his move to Real Madrid, Diomande was signed for three years to serve as an ambassador for the Red Bull brand, in a move that reflects the status the player has reached at a young age.
Diomande is currently viewed as one of the most prominent emerging attacking talents in world football, after drawing attention thanks to his rapid development and standout performances.
If the Ivorian player continues his upward trajectory with Real Madrid, Red Bull will have secured one of its brand's most prominent ambassadors in the coming years, but this time in the colors of the Royal Club instead of RB Leipzig's jersey.
