Xabi Alonso, Chelsea's manager, believes he needs an outstanding version of Cole Palmer to build a strong team.
Chelsea won their first Premier League round match against Fulham by three goals to two.
Alonso told Sky Sports after the match: "You can't feel comfortable with just a one-goal lead; it was a difficult game, and we know how challenging away matches are."
He added, "We knew how to handle tough periods and do whatever it took at certain moments, which is why we're very happy with these three points."
He continued, "The early goal helped us gain confidence. I think we had some chances to score before they equalized, but overall we were stable, comfortable even without the ball, and posed a threat."
He further stated, "The three forwards blended well together and created opportunities. Ultimately, to win away games, you must fight and defend your lead, something we also want to continue doing in the future. However, it was a good match for opening day."
He concluded, "The match was professional and featured different phases of control. Winning an away game in the Premier League is usually difficult, and we were prepared for that."
He added, "I enjoyed Palmer's performance; he played responsibly and maturely, yet also freely. It was important to get the best out of him. I'm happy for him, and if we want to have a good team, we need an outstanding version of Palmer."
He finished by saying, "Enzo's future? In football, nothing surprises me anymore. We'll see what happens. Of course, I hope we can make something happen in the future, but we'll see this week."
