Khaled El-Derandali, vice president of the Football Association, commented on the possibility of increasing the number of Egyptian clubs in African tournaments during the next season "2026-2027", praising what Hani Abu Rida, president of the Jabalia, is offering.
Hani Abu Rida had announced submitting an official request to "CAF" to increase the number of participating clubs in the African Champions League and Confederation tournaments.
Al-Derandali said in statements via MBC Egypt 2 channel: "Egypt has imposed itself, and there is no one stronger in Africa now than Al-Ahly, Zamalek, and Pyramids, and therefore we have the right to increase the number of Egyptian clubs participating in the continental tournaments".
He added: "There is no clear response yet regarding CAF's approval or lack thereof to increase the number of clubs in African tournaments".
He continued: "Hani Abu Rida is very strong and has done many things I cannot disclose, and his strength in CAF and FIFA is beyond what you imagine".
He went on: "Abu Rida can pressure to implement the decision to increase the number of clubs in African tournaments, and he wishes to offer anything for Egyptian football".
In another context, Al-Derandali revealed an upcoming meeting of the Football Association in the coming days to settle many matters, most notably renewing the contract of Hossam Hassan, coach of the Egypt national team.
