The Al Ahly men's handball team achieved a new milestone in the Club World Cup, securing their third victory over a European team in the tournament, making them the only Egyptian and African team to accomplish this feat.
Al Ahly qualified for the bronze medal match of the 2026 IHF Men's Super Globe after defeating Füchse Berlin 30-27, adding the German side to their list of European victims in the Club World Cup.
Al Ahly's third win against a European team
This achievement by Al Ahly follows a streak that began in the 2022 edition, when they recorded their first-ever victory over a European team in the tournament's history, defeating Portugal's Benfica 29-28.
In the 2024 edition, Al Ahly returned to claim another historic victory, upsetting Spain's Barcelona 32-29 in the third-place playoff to secure the bronze medal.
Two years later, Al Ahly repeated the feat against Füchse Berlin, one of Europe's top clubs, clinching the match 30-27 to reach their third victory over teams from the Old Continent in their Super Globe history.
An achievement unique to Al Ahly
With these three victories, Al Ahly has written its own special chapter in the Club World Cup, becoming the first Egyptian and African team to defeat a European opponent in the tournament.
