The management of Al-Ahli Club decided to dispense with the services of the Algerian international Riyad Mahrez, after a career that lasted three years, since contracting with him coming from Manchester City in the summer of 2023.

The Saudi newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat" reported today, Friday, that the management of Al-Ahli Club decided to dispense with Riyad Mahrez, as he contributed to many achievements, perhaps the most prominent of which is winning the AFC Champions League Elite title twice in a row.

The management of Al-Ahli Club will activate the exit clause stipulated in the contract, which obliges the club to pay an amount estimated at $15 million in exchange for terminating the contract between the two parties.

The newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat" explained that Riyad Mahrez's desire was to stay with Al-Ahli and complete his contract, which extends until the end of the 2026-2027 season.

The 35-year-old participated with Saudi Al-Ahli in 122 matches, scoring 37 goals and providing 50 assists.

Riyad Mahrez had announced in the past hours his international retirement after the Algerian national team "the Greens" exited the round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup at the hands of the Swiss national team.
