Saudi press reports confirmed that the Jeddah Al-Ahli administration granted the Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez a 48-hour deadline to respond to the official offer submitted by the club's administration to coach the team starting from the next season.
According to the Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiya, Al-Ahli Jeddah submitted its offer to the Spanish coach recently, after he became on the list of candidates to succeed Matthias Jaissle, who has become close to assuming responsibility for Newcastle United.
At the same time, the Al-Ahli Jeddah administration continues its negotiations with a number of coaches in anticipation of the Spaniard not agreeing to the offer, while the administration prefers to contract with a coach who has previous experience in the Saudi league, or one of the region's leagues.
British reports had previously revealed that Al-Ahli would receive about 11 million euros from Newcastle in exchange for relinquishing Jaissle, who will sign a contract extending to four seasons after being chosen to succeed the Englishman Eddie Howe.
While Saudi reports later confirmed that Al-Ahli's coaching options were limited to Xavi, and the Portuguese Nuno Santo and Vitor Pereira.
Xavi began his coaching career with Qatari Al-Sadd in 2019, where he achieved 7 titles with them before taking over the coaching of Barcelona in November 2021, and leading it to winning the Spanish League and Super Cup titles in the 2022-2023 season.
