After failing to secure any wins, Al-Khaleej president: Jose Gomes needs time to settle in

Ahmad Khreida, president of Al-Khaleej Club, believes that Portuguese coach Jose Gomez needs some time for positive results to emerge with the team.

Under the Portuguese coach, Al-Khaleej has not yet achieved a win in four Saudi Pro League matches, drawing three and losing one, and also exited the King's Cup early.

Khreida said in statements carried by the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper: "Injuries have affected some players, most notably Angelo Fulgini and Joshua King, along with a number of other players."

He added, "Moreover, the technical change following the departure of coach Georgios Donis means that coach Jose Gomez needs time to settle in."

He continued, "I believe that with the squad becoming more complete, Al-Khaleej Club will perform better."

The former Al-Zamalek coach had complained about the pressure of the Saudi Pro League match schedule.

Gomez said in statements published by the Saudi sports newspaper Al-Riyadhia a few weeks ago: "Playing a match every three days at the start of the season? It's a bit strange, and those responsible for the league schedule certainly have difficulty organizing the matches due to the Gulf Cup and the Asian Cup."

Gomez took over as Al-Khaleej's coach this summer after leaving Al-Ittihad.
