Mustafa Abu Zahra, a member of the Football Association board of directors, expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of French referee François Letexier, who officiated Egypt's match against Argentina.
The Egyptian national team bid farewell to the World Cup from the round of 16 after losing to Argentina 3-2.
Abu Zahra said in televised statements to MBC channel: "The Egyptian Federation expresses its dissatisfaction with the French refereeing crew, and we have submitted a complaint to the International Football Association, demanding the suspension of the French referee."
He added, "Replaying the match is out of the question, but we have expressed our dissatisfaction, and there was a very heated discussion between Hani Abu Rida and the Secretary General of the International Federation (FIFA) in front of all international news agencies, and everyone noticed that there was an important matter in the match."
He continued, "There will be an official response to the Egyptian Federation's complaint to FIFA, and it will be announced."
He added, "Other teams bid farewell to the World Cup, and no one sympathized with them like they sympathized with the Egyptian national team."
Abu Zahra thanked President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his continuous support before and during the tournament, the Cabinet, the Minister of Sports, and the national companies that worked with the national team.
He also thanked the Egyptian fans inside and outside Egypt, and the Arab fans who supported the national team.
Abu Zahra spoke about the Football Association's national project: "We will implement our national project that we announced before traveling to the World Cup, in cooperation with all state institutions."
He added, "This project will be in every street in Egypt, and I hope it will be under the patronage of President El-Sisi."
Regarding the reception of the national team, he said, "There will be a popular and governmental reception at the highest level; it will be a great honor for us if President El-Sisi receives us, and it will be a launch for us toward the future to please the Egyptian people."
In response to whether Hossam Hassan's statements supporting Palestine were the reason behind the controversial refereeing incidents in the match, he said, "Palestine is the cause of every Egyptian, and if what we went through in the match was due to Hossam Hassan's support for the Palestinian cause, then we have gained our support for the cause and delivered a message to our brothers that we stand by them."
