Pedro Proença, the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, held an urgent meeting to resolve the crisis involving Cristiano Ronaldo following his anger over not playing against Norway.

Ronaldo remained on Portugal's bench during their 2-1 victory over Norway in the UEFA Nations League.

According to the Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Pedro Proença, the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, held an urgent meeting in an attempt to contain Cristiano Ronaldo's anger, as he did not expect to remain on the bench for the entire duration of the match against Norway.

The newspaper explained that Ronaldo's anger stemmed from a statement made by team coach Jorge Jesus before the match, in which he said Ronaldo would play even if he did not start as a starter.

Reports indicated that Ronaldo and Jesus exchanged views, marking a positive step towards resolving the crisis.

Jesus stated in comments to the Portuguese channel RTP after the match: "I was considering bringing Ronaldo on for half an hour, but the course of the game dictated other things, and I felt it was not the right time to bring him on."

The Portuguese national team secured a victory against its host, Norway, in Oslo, winning two goals to one in the second round.

This is the first time in two years, and the second time since the 2022 World Cup, that Cristiano Ronaldo started a match with the Portuguese national team on the bench.

Jorge Jesus substituted Ronaldo in the 67th minute of Portugal's match against Wales in the first round.

At the time, he justified the substitution by saying, "I thought it was important to have a new player, a player capable of pressing the opponent."

The Portuguese national team tops Group Four with six points, followed by the Norwegian and Danish teams with three points each, while Wales sits at the bottom of the group without any points.
