Essam Abdel Fattah, head of the Referees Committee, confirmed that the VAR room conversation in the Al Ahly vs. Zed match will be reviewed, regarding the incident involving referee Mohamed Marouf and Wael Gomaa, the football manager of the Red team.
Al Ahly defeated Zed 2-0 in the second round of the Premier League, after which the home team issued a statement on Saturday evening demanding clarification on certain refereeing events that occurred during the match.
Essam Abdel Fattah's comments
Essam Abdel Fattah said in a statement via On TV: "Everything is recorded in the VAR. What is being said is shameful. We will definitely listen to what took place between Mohamed Marouf and Wael Gomaa."
He added: "I am very upset about what is happening. There are people who have no sense of integrity in their words or truthfulness in their information."
He clarified: "I am in favor of giving confidence to the Egyptian referee. We must trust our own countryman. But how can an Egyptian referee manage the Al Ahly vs. Zamalek match amidst lies, unfair accusations against referees, and doubts about them? No sane person would do this. It is very difficult for an Egyptian referee to manage the Cairo Derby."
Confronting insults to the Referees Committee
He concluded: "We will stand firmly against anyone who insults the Referees Committee. Any former referee who oversteps will be referred to the Disciplinary Committee, and the refereeing family must be respected."
Rumors have circulated in recent hours that Mohamed Marouf asked Wael Gomaa to substitute Al Ahly player Ali Mahmoud, as he had not been sent off against Zed after receiving a yellow card.
Al Ahly had defeated Zed 2-0 in the second round of the Egyptian Premier League.
