Swiss club Zurich has taken strict measures against its star player, José Perea, following a verbal altercation with head coach Marcel Koller.

The Swiss newspaper Blick reported that Juan José Perea, Zurich's striker, has entered into an internal crisis with his club after engaging in a verbal dispute with his coach, Marcel Koller, following the victory over Lausanne.

Zurich defeated their host, Lausanne, by three goals to two in the match that brought the two teams together last Saturday, as part of the fifth round of the Swiss Super League.

The report indicated that despite the victory and the team displaying strong character by scoring three goals, the atmosphere within the club was not ideal after the final whistle.

It added that the Colombian striker, Perea, was angry about not participating in the match and engaged in a verbal altercation with the 65-year-old former Al-Ahly coach immediately after the encounter ended.

The newspaper clarified that this incident led to the club's decision to suspend the 26-year-old player, without disclosing the duration of the suspension; Perea will remain excluded until further notice.

Consequently, Perea will not be included in Zurich's squad for the match against Young Boys, while his status for participation in the upcoming derby against Grasshoppers remains unclear.

Perea had joined Zurich on loan from Stuttgart in the summer of 2024 and made a distinguished start with the team, scoring seven goals in 22 league matches. However, his career suffered a major setback in March 2025 when he sustained an Achilles tendon rupture, keeping him away from the pitches for approximately six months.

Subsequently, Zurich signed the Colombian striker permanently, but he has been unable to regain the level he demonstrated during his initial months with the team.

The newspaper concluded: "Now, following the altercation with Koller, it appears that Perea has further complicated his situation within the club, at a time when his team was celebrating an important away victory."
