A source from the Competitions Committee at the African Football Confederation (CAF) clarified the matter of increasing the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League and Confederation Cup.

The source told FilGoal.com: "Increasing the number of teams participating in the Champions League and Confederation Cup will happen if more than one association submits a request."
He added, "In that case, the matter will be presented to the Competitions Committee, a vision for the two tournaments will be developed, and then the vision will be submitted for discussion at the nearest Executive Committee meeting to make a decision."
He concluded, "So far, there has been no change in the number of participating teams."

The Football Association revealed in an official statement that Abu Rida had formally submitted the request to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The Football Association explained in its statement: "In light of the achievements made by the African associations participating in the World Cup, Hani Abu Rida submitted an official request to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), including a request to increase the number of clubs participating in both the African Champions League and the African Confederation Cup."
He added, "Abu Rida requested that each member association be granted an additional seat, provided that these seats are distributed according to the classification criteria and regulations approved by the Confederation of African Football."
The Association's statement concluded, "The share of some associations may rise, according to the classification criteria in effect, to 3 clubs in the African Champions League and 3 clubs in the African Confederation Cup, provided that the additional clubs begin their participation from the preliminary rounds."
The league champion and runner-up are scheduled to participate in the African Champions League.
Meanwhile, the third-place team in the league and the cup winner participate in the African Confederation Cup.
