A source from Assiut Petroleum Club revealed the reason why Assiut Cement Stadium was not approved for the team to play its matches in the Premier League.
The Clubs League had previously announced the relocation of Assiut Petroleum's matches from Assiut Cement Stadium to Borg El Arab.
A source from Assiut Petroleum told FilGoal.com: "The club management provided an alternative stadium to Assiut Petroleum Stadium since our promotion to the Premier League, pending the completion of preparations for our own stadium, which were scheduled to be finished by next October."
He continued, "Assiut Cement Stadium is ready in terms of lighting and VAR facilities, but there is an issue concerning a crack in one of the third-tier stands. This caused a delay in obtaining security approval, especially with an expected attendance of around 2,000 spectators. We explained that the crack does not affect the stadium's structural integrity, but the request was rejected."
He added, "The club management initially considered using Aswan Stadium to host matches, but delays in inspection procedures prompted the club to seek an alternative venue. Ultimately, the team's matches were relocated to Borg El Arab Stadium in coordination with the Clubs League."
He further stated, "Assiut Petroleum management will contact the Ministry of Sports to coordinate with the Assiut Security Directorate in order to obtain security approval for Assiut Cement Stadium, so it can be used in the coming period until our own stadium is fully prepared."
He concluded, "Assiut Petroleum represents Upper Egypt, and it is only natural that our matches be held within the region. However, the current lack of another stadium meeting all requirements has led to the temporary relocation of matches to Borg El Arab Stadium. We hope to return to Assiut after the international break."
Assiut Petroleum will face Suez Petrojet in the first round of the Egyptian Premier League at Borg El Arab Stadium.
