A source inside Zamalek Club revealed the truth regarding goalkeeper Mohamed Awad's alleged refusal to sit on the bench as a substitute for his teammate Mohamed Sobhi in the match against AS Port of Djibouti, during the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
The source stated in exclusive comments to Yalla Kora: "There is no truth to the claim that Mohamed Awad refused to sit on the bench as a substitute for Mohamed Sobhi against AS Port, the Djiboutian champions."
He added: "The technical staff informed Awad and Mehdi Soliman before the training camp that they were excluded from the match lineup, as part of a rotation policy and to give opportunities to Sobhi and Omar Abdel Aziz."
He concluded: "Awad and Mehdi accepted the decision naturally and were present at Cairo International Stadium to support the team against their Djiboutian opponent."
Zamalek had defeated their counterpart AS Port of Djibouti with a score of 2-1, thanks to goals by Mohamed Shehata and Chico Banza, in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League competition.
