Real Madrid received an early blow during the preparation period for the new season, after the club announced the injury of its defender Raúl Asensio, which will keep him away from the pitches for several weeks, making him the first injured player in the era of Portuguese coach José Mourinho.
Real Madrid explained, in an official statement, that the medical examinations the player underwent showed he had suffered an injury to the rectus femoris muscle in the right leg, noting that his return will be determined according to the development of his condition and his response to treatment.
The statement read: "Following the examinations conducted by Real Madrid's medical services on our player Raúl Asensio, he was diagnosed with a muscular injury to the rectus femoris muscle of the right leg, and his condition is under monitoring."
According to the Spanish newspaper "Marca", the young defender is expected to be sidelined for a period ranging between 4 and 6 weeks, meaning he will miss the remainder of the pre-season matches, in addition to diminishing chances of joining the start of the Spanish league competitions.
Asensio had participated in the first half of the friendly match between Real Madrid and Leganés last Tuesday in the city of Valdepeñas, before sustaining the injury.
This injury comes at a time when reports indicate that the player is on the list of candidates to leave Real Madrid during the summer transfer window, especially after the club signed French defender Ibrahima Konaté in a free transfer deal following the end of his contract with Liverpool.
Although the injury is not considered serious, it may delay the determination of the player's future in the coming weeks, pending his full recovery and return to training.
