Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy held a coordination meeting with Yasser El-Sharif, President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, and the committee's board of directors at the headquarters of the Egyptian Olympic Committee to discuss the latest preparations of national teams and their training programs for the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal, and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
A Station Towards Achievement
The Ministry of Youth and Sports stated that today’s meeting is an extension of continuous and fruitful cooperation with the Egyptian Olympic Committee and sports federations, noting that the goal is clear: to begin preparing tomorrow’s champions starting today.
In this context, Ashraf Sobhy praised the results achieved by the Egyptian delegation at the Mediterranean Games in Italy, where the Pharaohs won 58 medals across various categories.
He added: "I believe this harvest confirms that Egyptian sports are moving steadily towards further achievements, especially given the significant development witnessed in the preparation programs for national teams. However, these 58 medals are not the end of the story; they are merely a station, from which another journey begins."
Sobhy explained that the next phase requires the collaboration of all sports institutions and working according to clear and well-thought-out plans to ensure the best possible preparation for male and female players ahead of the Dakar 2026 competitions, followed by Los Angeles 2028.
He continued: "These two major events require early work and preparation worthy of the scale of Egyptian ambition. The ministry will continue to support national teams and provide all necessary resources for players and technical staff, contributing to achieving the goals of Egyptian sports and raising the Egyptian flag at various international forums."
Integration Makes the Difference
For his part, Yasser El-Sharif welcomed the ongoing cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, emphasizing that the next phase requires integrated efforts between the ministry, the Olympic Committee, and sports federations.
He added: "A champion is not created by a single entity, nor does achievement emerge from an isolated institution. It is an integrated system where each party knows its role, and every step serves the one that follows."
El-Sharif noted that the committee is working on developing comprehensive preparation plans for national teams and equipping champions capable of competing strongly in the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, as well as the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The Mediterranean... Fuel for the Next Phase
Yasser El-Sharif continued: "The results achieved at the Mediterranean Games represent a strong motivation to continue working and improving the levels of male and female players. Medals are not just a harvest; they are a message that hard work pays off and that we are on the right path, but the road is not yet finished."
During the meeting, it was confirmed that there would be continued monitoring of preparation programs, training camps, and international matches for national teams during the upcoming period, in order to enhance the technical and physical readiness of players and grant them the necessary experience before major events.
El-Sharif stressed the importance of continuing coordination with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and all sports federations, ensuring the best technical and physical preparation for players, and also strengthening the ability of Egyptian sports to achieve distinguished results in upcoming international events.
