For its part, Barcelona said in its official statement: "A match will be held between our team and Al Ahly in the 61st edition of the Joan Gamper Cup, on Wednesday, August 19 at 9:00 PM Cairo time at Camp Nou Stadium, and it will be Barcelona's first match on our home ground in the 2026/27 season, coinciding with the official presentation of the team to the fans".

It added: "The Joan Gamper Cup match will return to Camp Nou after its reopening, as the previous edition of the tournament was held at Johan Cruyff Stadium, where Barça won against Como at the time, while Montjuïc Stadium hosted the previous two editions against Monaco and Tottenham, respectively".

It continued: "Al Ahly will become the first Egyptian and African team to play in the Joan Gamper Cup. It was founded in 1907 and is based in Cairo, and is considered the most successful club in Africa and one of the most decorated football clubs with titles, with a history spanning more than a century full of sporting achievements, in addition to continental titles".

It clarified: "Barcelona has previously faced its counterpart Al Ahly on two special occasions, including Al Ahly's centenary celebrations in Cairo in 2007. The two teams also met in a friendly for the first time in 1961, and after nearly two decades, the two football giants will meet again, but this time at Camp Nou, in a historic occasion that brings together the African club and Barcelona".

It concluded: "Al Ahly, thanks to its participation in that match, enhances its international standing, becoming the first representative of African football to participate in this prestigious tournament".
