The first team of Al-Ahly Club suffered a strong blow with the injury of Youssef Belamri, the left-back of the Reds, just days before the transfer window closes.

Al-Ahly Club announced in the early hours of Thursday morning that Youssef Belamri suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury after participating in the friendly match against Spanish side Badalona.

Belamri’s absence from Al-Ahly’s squad will range between 6 to 10 months, meaning he is unlikely to feature in any matches next season, during which Al-Ahly aims to reclaim the league title while also competing for the CAF Confederation Cup, Egypt Cup and Egypt Capital Cup.

Youssef Belamri is one of only two players on Al-Ahly’s roster whose primary position is left-back, alongside Karim El Debes, which may prompt the club’s management to seek a replacement for the recently injured player.

Several left-backs are available on free transfers this summer, making negotiations with one of them far easier for Al-Ahly’s management than dealing with other clubs, especially with only two days left before the transfer window closes. (See photos)

Among those available is Portuguese defender Rafael Guerreiro, formerly of Bayern Munich, as well as Ivorian Ghislain Konan, who previously played for Portuguese side Gil Vicente and for Saudi club Al-Nassr, where he assisted Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal against Zamalek in the Arab Championship.

The list of free-agent left-backs also includes Alberto Moreno, formerly of Liverpool, who was a teammate of Mohamed Salah at Anfield.
