Al-Ahly Club has begun moving to find a replacement for Amr El-Gazzar, the team's defender, to sign him in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Earlier, Al-Ahly announced that Amr El-Gazzar had suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his knee.
According to what FilGoal.com has learned, a meeting was held between Sayed Abdel Hafez, a member of Al-Ahly's board of directors, Wael Gomaa, the football director, Essam Siraj, the contracts manager, and Ahmed Abu Muslim, the head of scouts, to discuss searching for a defender skilled at playing out from the back to be signed in January following Amr El-Gazzar's injury.
There are numerous names under consideration, including local players, Egyptians playing abroad, and foreign defenders, in case Reda Salem or Achraf Dari depart next January.
The most prominent Egyptian defenders currently playing abroad include Hosam Abd El-Majeed, who plays for Bulgarian club Ludogorets and formerly played for Zamalek; Omar Fayez, who plays for Italian club Frosinone; Mohamed Abd El-Moneim, who plays for French club Nice; and Hamdi Fathi, who plays for Qatari club Al-Wakrah and is capable of playing in this position.
El-Gazzar sustained the injury during his team's match against El-Mokawloon El-Arab, which ended in a 1-1 draw in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Ahmed Gaballa, head of the medical staff, revealed that scans performed on player Amr El-Gazzar this morning showed he has suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament and a tear in the medial meniscus.
Gaballa emphasized that a date for the player's surgery is currently being determined for the coming period.
