Former Morocco national team coach Walid Regragui praised what Hossam Hassan has achieved since taking charge of Egypt, whether in the Africa Cup of Nations or the World Cup.

Hossam Hassan wrote a new chapter in Egypt's World Cup history by leading the Pharaohs to their first-ever victory and reaching the knockout stages for the first time in the 2026 World Cup.

Regragui, while appearing as a guest on an interview with one of the platforms, cited Hossam Hassan when discussing the importance of national coaches.

The former Morocco coach said: "We have national coaches like Hossam Hassan, who led Egypt to the World Cup, reached the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals, and qualified for the World Cup knockout stages, something Egypt had never achieved before."

He added: "This confirms that national coaches have quality."

He continued: "Hiring foreign coaches is not necessarily the best option; we have evidence that we have national competencies, and we have played at the highest levels."

He went on to say: "No one is better than you to understand your countrymen; the national coach is the one who can understand the players."

He concluded: "Throughout my life, I have never had an inferiority complex towards foreign coaches, so I will not say that I will play against Luis Enrique and he will be better than me just because he has managed European teams."

He finished by saying: "I do not claim to be better than others, but I am not inferior to any other competitor."
