Scottish Celtic lost their chance to qualify for the Champions League group stage after being eliminated by Austrian LASK in the competition's playoff round.
Austrian LASK had knocked out Scottish Celtic from the Champions League, despite Haitham Hassan's team winning the first leg 3-0; however, the Austrian side managed to win 5-1 at home.
According to the international outlet "lavozdeasturias," Haitham Hassan deprived Real Oviedo of a substantial financial sum following Celtic's loss in the Champions League qualifying playoff second leg.
Haitham Hassan did not play a single minute of the 120-minute match, despite featuring in the second half of the first leg; the Egyptian watched his team's elimination from the substitutes' bench.
Celtic will now have to compete in the Europa League tournament, having faced the risk of a heavier defeat against LASK, with this setback dealing a severe blow to Real Oviedo.
Haitham Hassan's transfer deal to Celtic, initially valued at over €5.5 million with Villarreal entitled to 40% of the profits, included several bonuses linked to the club's qualification for the Champions League.
These bonuses stipulate that Celtic must pay a financial amount merely for participating in the Champions League, along with additional incentives based on the team's performance in the group stage; therefore, Real Oviedo will be unable to obtain these funds.
