Ertuğrul Doğan, president of Trabzonspor club, described Egyptian star Mohamed Salah as "the greatest Muslim player in the world," affirming that he represents an influential role model both on and off the football pitch.
Doğan stated in remarks to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that, for the club, Salah is not merely a major signing but a model of professionalism, conduct, and discipline, and a key element in Trabzon's project aimed at developing young talents while leveraging the experience of established stars.
The Turkish club president revealed details of negotiations with Salah, who joined Trabzonspor on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool ended, signing a two-year deal.
He explained that during negotiations, Salah asked him: "Why should I choose Trabzonspor now?" Doğan responded by highlighting the exceptional relationship between the club and its fans, saying: "You will encounter a group of supporters unlike any you have seen before, and you will feel the genuine love these people hold."
The Trabzon president's words were quickly confirmed on the ground, as approximately 35,000 fans gathered to welcome Salah upon his arrival in Turkey, a scene reflecting the immense popularity enjoyed by the Egyptian star.
Salah is expected to earn around €17 million annually, in a deal representing a significant investment by the Turkish club, which aims to benefit from his experience in developing its young players and preparing them for future moves to top European clubs.
Doğan believes that Salah's presence alongside young talents will provide them with an opportunity to learn from one of football's most prominent global stars, while the Egyptian will serve as the face of Trabzon's sporting project and its future ambitions.
