Wael Gomaa Reveals Reason Behind Imam Ashour's Absence
Wael Gomaa, Al-Ahly's Football Director, stated via "Yalla Kora" that Imam Ashour's absence is due to lack of full fitness, prompting coach Hossam El-Badry to exclude him from the Sharqia Enppi match.
The 28-year-old player has not participated in any preparatory sessions since sustaining an injury during Egypt's Round of 16 World Cup 2026 match against Argentina.
Imam Ashour also missed Al-Ahly's most recent match against Barcelona last Wednesday evening, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the Catalan club.
Recently, Al-Ahly held negotiations with Imam Ashour regarding a contract extension; his current deal expires in summer 2028, and the club aims to extend it until 2030.
The Egyptian international was linked with a potential departure this summer after Turkish club Konyaspor submitted a formal offer that was rejected, alongside reported interest from Saudi club Al-Ittihad.
