The Egyptian Premier League competition for the new 2026-2027 season kicks off today, Friday, August 21, with the matches of the first round.
The most notable match in the first round is Zamalek "the defending champion" against Al-Ittihad Alexandria, while Al-Ahly aims to make up for finishing last season without any titles, opening their campaign against Sharqia Enppi on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Pyramids, the runner-up in the Egyptian league last season, will start their matches against Ghazl Mahalla.

The league will be held in two stages, where the 20 teams will play the first stage in a single round-robin format, with each team playing 19 matches. The top six teams will advance to the championship group to compete for the league title and qualification for African competitions.
On the other hand, the other 14 clubs will be in the relegation group, with four teams being relegated to the Professional League at the end of the season.
