Media reports revealed today a major surprise regarding Barcelona club legend Xavi Hernandez, who has been away from coaching for more than two years now.
Xavi has not been linked to any club since leaving his role coaching Barcelona at the end of the 2024 season, following a dispute between him and president Joan Laporta.
The newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" reported, citing "De Telegraaf", that Xavi could return to coaching in the coming period and is among the candidates to take over as head coach of the Netherlands national team.
The newspaper added that the Dutch Football Association is strongly considering signing Xavi, and a decision on the new national team coach will be made as soon as possible.

Roberto Martinez, the former Portugal coach, has also previously been linked with succeeding Ronald Koeman in coaching the Netherlands national team, alongside former Barcelona player Michael Reiziger, coach of the Netherlands under-21 national team.
It noted that Xavi has expressed on more than one occasion his desire to coach a national team, which would allow him to spend more time with his family and settle in Barcelona.
The newspaper concluded that the Dutch Football Association wants to decide on the new coach as soon as possible so he is ready to take charge during the next international break in September, when the Netherlands national team participates in the UEFA Nations League.
