One of the stars of the Argentine national team hinted at the possibility of retiring from international play after losing the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday evening to Spain.

MetLife Stadium hosted the World Cup final match between Argentina and Spain, and Ferran Torres was able to lead Luis de la Fuente's squad to a 1-0 victory.

Argentine national team goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez shone in that match as he saved many dangerous balls that almost shook his net, but that was not enough to prevent the loss.

Through his personal account on Instagram, Emiliano Martínez wrote: "I dreamed of winning the World Cup again, I dreamed of going to our country and writing history again".

He added: "Describing that pain is really difficult, there are many things that need to be thought about and how to try to move forward, and knowing whether the time has come to step aside".

He continued: "I'm sorry, I did everything in my power to help my country and my teammates in the team".
