De Paul posted, via his official account on the social media site "Instagram": "The greatest pain for us is that we were unable to bring the World Cup back to our country because if there is anyone who deserves to experience this feeling again, it is you".
He continued: "But with the passage of hours, you know that your connection to this team goes far beyond just winning a championship and this is what I want to hold on to in order to overcome this painful moment".
He added: "Today I see how many people wished for this defeat and spread incorrect conspiracy theories that have no basis during the World Cup to alleviate the pain of others who were unable to experience what the entire Argentine people lived".
He continued: "Our smiles annoyed them and our personality angered them, but this only confirmed that the passion and love for our jersey are capable of triumphing over anything".
He concluded: "The pain will continue for a long time, but today I am more than ever proud to be Argentine".
