There is a prevailing trend within the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to approve the request of Hani Abu Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, to increase the number of clubs participating in the African championships during the upcoming season, but with a condition.
Abu Rida had requested an increase in the number of participating clubs in both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup by granting each member association an additional seat, provided that these seats are distributed according to the classification criteria and regulations approved by the Confederation of African Football.
The members of the Executive Committee expressed a preliminary consensus in support of the idea by increasing the number of clubs in the CAF Champions League, but on the condition of not increasing it in the Confederation Cup, pending official approval during the upcoming meetings, according to the Moroccan website "sport7" today, Sunday.
Current indicators have become more positive compared to the past days, as the file has moved from the study stage to the stage of procedural arrangements, after the CAF Competitions Committee decided to postpone the final deadline for submitting the lists of participating clubs in the continental competitions to next August.

This postponement grants the African Confederation additional time to finalize the decision and introduce the necessary amendments to the competition system. The expected increase will include only the CAF Champions League and will not extend to the CAF Confederation Cup, which means that the system of the second competition will remain unchanged during the next season.
