Moroccan press reports revealed a trend toward playing a friendly match between the Egyptian and Moroccan national teams in the coming period after both countries conclude their participation in the 2026 World Cup.

The Egyptian national team managed to qualify for the round of 16 of the World Cup before being eliminated by Argentina, while the Moroccan national team exited the World Cup competitions from the quarterfinals following their defeat to France.

The sport7 newspaper reported that there are contacts between Hani Abu Rida, President of the Egyptian Football Association, and Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, in order to agree on holding a friendly match between the Egyptian and Moroccan national teams during the coming period.

The reports mentioned that the proposed match is expected to be held at Cairo International Stadium, as part of the two teams' preparations to participate in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations competitions.

It added that Abu Rida and Lekjaa wish to organize a match bringing the two national teams together, after they delivered distinguished performances in the 2026 World Cup and honored African football with strong showings against the world's top teams.

The holding of the friendly match is expected to be finalized in the coming period, should the Egyptian and Moroccan federations reach a final agreement on its date.
