Press reports revealed the White House's position regarding punishing a number of Argentina national team players after they qualified for the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.
Atlanta Stadium hosted the match between the Argentina and England national teams, where the defending champions won two goals to one.
After the match, a number of Argentina national team players celebrated by raising a flag that read "Falkland Islands are Argentine", in light of the well-known political dispute between them and England as a result of the 1982 Falklands War.

The British government, along with the leader of the Liberal Democrats, demanded that FIFA impose a penalty on Argentina and prevent the players who raised the aforementioned flag from participating in the World Cup final against Spain next Sunday.
These demands came on the grounds of violating FIFA rules related to preventing political messages inside stadiums.
The English newspaper "Daily Express" reported, quoting "Sky News" journalist Rob Harris, that despite this, the White House chose to support the Argentine players, as it confirmed its lack of support for preventing any Argentine player from playing in the final match the day after tomorrow.
It explained that officials from President Donald Trump's staff rejected the British government's calls to punish the players who raised the banner, namely Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso.
Andrew Giuliani, head of the World Cup committee in the Trump administration, also insisted that Argentina exercised its natural right to freedom of expression, referring to the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
