Deco, Barcelona's sporting director, is alongside club president Joan Laporta in New York before the Spain vs Argentina match in the 2026 World Cup final on Sunday.
Deco was asked about the World Cup final if he sees it as the ideal way to determine the champion, and he replied in statements published by the Spanish "Mundo Deportivo": "I think so".
He added: "The Spanish national team has shown a wonderful level after the semi-final match, and the Argentine national team continues to try to find ways to achieve victory, and Messi is presenting a magnificent performance, and for this reason I believe that we will witness a wonderful final match".

He continued: "Both teams include distinguished players, Spain presents a wonderful performance, while Argentina struggled to overcome difficult moments but possesses the fighting spirit that always keeps it in the circle of competition".
Deco flirted with Messi after his brilliance in the World Cup: "I will always continue to support those close to me, but they are present everywhere, Leo will always remain one of us, in addition to being a friend, he has given everything to Barcelona and to the world of football, he is a true legend".
Deco concluded about the strong presence of Barcelona players in the Spanish national team: "We have Lionel on one side and we have Barcelona players on the other side, it is not easy to choose and for this reason we will suffice with enjoying the match, I think it will be a magnificent final".
